This place is so beautiful!! Lots to explore along the trail. I only had time to go about 2 miles in, but was able to see small waterfalls and great views!
We hiked the Hawks Nest Rail Trail and started in Ansted just past the Rite Aid. The trail was 1.8 miles one way. It was a very easy trail. Their were caves, waterfalls and bridges, it was beautiful. You can also ride the tram down to the trail from Hawks Nest State Park but the tram is closed on Wednesdays, that's why we started at the other end. The trail follows the water the whole way. Their were many picnic tables along the trail. Best trail we've ever been on.
The overlook is nice, very short paved walk. The real trail is at the bottom which you can take the skylift to or by driving around. Very nice scenery.
Got there about sunset. And was a magnificent light show. Sun setting on just the tops of the mountains, as the shadows took over the deep valleys. Beautiful moment beautiful place. Only in WV.
More of a overlook than a trail but definitely worth a visit, perfect spot for watch the sunset.
