This hike begins at small parking lot within the Harpers Ferry National Park, and immediately goes up a rocky hill to Jefferson Rock that provides an overlook of Harpers Ferry. Then the trail descends into Harpers Ferry. Head north crossing the Byron Memorial Footbridge and veer right for the C & O Canal tow path along the Potomac River heading north. Continue until the path goes under a bridge and begin looking for mile marker #58, and turn left. The trail continues across Keep Tryst Road, and goes under US 340 and then crosses Weverton Road before it begins to travel up South Mountain on switchbacks leading you to Weverton Cliffs.

After doing a loop to reach the overlook to Harpers Ferry, we decided to drive to the Weverton Cliffs (9 mins) and do a short hike. It was continuously uphill but it was quite easy. There are so many leaves on the pathway during fall that you can easily slip. The cliffs are really nice and worth the trip if you have extra time after finishing a hike nearby.

Beautiful but flat hike along the river for most of the time. The steep, invigorating hike up to Weverton cliff was great and the view was awesome.

Third hike and loved it!! The long flat walk paralleling the railroad tracks and the C&O Canal was a great start but on the way back seemed so much longer and void of views... But it was a great hike and our pups loved it too!!

I generally park at the park and ride for a quick trip up to the cliffs. Another good route is parking at the State Park by Burkettsville and hiking south along the AT to the cliffs. Longer hike if you don't have two cars though and can get flooded after a lot of rain. Weverton is one of my favorite views in the area and isn't as crowded as MD Heights.

What a way to start the year on New Years day. It did not kill me so I guess it made me stronger.

We parked at the base of the cliff, parking in the public parking area and walked the mile or so to the top. Very nice hike....all uphill so moderately difficult, (but at least it was short!) and had a beautiful view of the Potomac River. I think it's best hiked in fall or winter after all the leaves are down....beautiful views much of the way.
