The Caperton is a 6 mile, asphalt paved trail. It is the middle section of the Mon River Rail Trail and closely parallels Beechurst Avenue, WVU, and local businesses along the riverside.

Nice paved trail. Lots of people out enjoying the nice weather. The river was dirty and full of trash.

The Parking on the stock recording is not correct, it takes you to private property. There is no actual parking to start and end only on the Caperton Trail, you will have to overlap it with the Mons Trail which actually has a few parking locations. The way I did it was I parked in the Aldi parking lot which is close to the Caperton Start and took an uber back to my car when I reached the end of the Caperton which is located inside a housing development, so again no end parking either, I wouldnt recommend this way because Aldi could technically tow your car. The actual trail isnt that great, lots of trash, few homeless people/shelters/ tons of private construction and not much to see. Its ok for a early afternoon walk but there are parts of the Mons Trail which are a lot nicer and a lot more accessible.

This trail is very well maintained and makes for an excellent bike and hike if you park your bike along the path and walk uphill at its intersection with the Core Arboretum. The views of the river are great, there are several cafes and shops with access from the path, and the trail is fairly level throughout. A word of caution though- I would advise against running the trail in the early morning/ late evening due to poor lighting, the homeless population along the trail, and the isolated-ness of some areas along the way. Nonetheless, I did see two police officers while riding along the trail which was comforting. Altogether, it’s a good trail!

New trail created in the Westover City Park. 1.5 mile loop of flowy fun. Professionally done by Appalachian Dirt and the local Parks people. It can be rode as an Easy Green, but if you put a little speed on it, things can get up to moderate with switchbacks and log rolls to keep things interesting. Thank you Westover for giving me a playground!!

Love running along the trail. There's always a lot of people using the trail, but the views it gives are wonderful! Access to the trail is also very convenient.
