This boardwalk offers scenic views of the gorge and New River Gorge Bridge. An easy walk on a fully assessable ramp leads to the first viewing point, while 178 steps descend to the lower overlook. The trail starts at the Canyon Rim Visitor Center parking lot off U.S. Route 19 in Lansing. For the Boardwalk Trail, park in the visitor center parking area and follow the paved sidewalk that leads west (away from the Visitor Center). Drop down a long flight of wooden stairs to a dramatic overlook of the Gorge and the Bridge.

A short and easy scenic view. This is perfect for checking “see the New River Gorge Bridge in person” off of your sight seeing list. We were here in early spring so the trees were a bit lifeless but the water and view is very much alive. Snap a few pics, sit on the benches provided as ‘rest stops’ down to the lower overlook, and enjoy this accessible route to a mighty landscape.

Beautiful scenic overlook, not really a trail. Wooden deck and lots of steps.

Great view. But not really a trail. More of a big stair case and a couple observation decks.

Well marked and maintained stairway to new river gorge bridge overlook.

More of a walk than a hike. Approximately 175 steps down to the viewing platform. The view of the bridge is worth the climb back up.

Not great, but worth a 15 minute stop after our drive here. The view of the arch bridge is neat - largest arch bridge on the Western Hemisphere.

Hard to all this a hike, but the view of the bridge was amazing. It’s more like walking down a bunch of stairs to a platform. Slippery when wet, of course.

It is beautiful here! We drove the loop which leads down to New River and let the kids play in the water. Great place for taking pictures.

This is a short boardwalk to the upper viewing area and then down a long wooden stairs to the lower and better viewpoint. I recommend going very early in the morning while the mist is in the gorge and there's better sunlight on the bridge.
