This beautiful trail takes the hiker up from the Canaan Valley Ski Resort up to Bald Knob. You may choose to continue the trail south to reach the top of the Canaan Valley ski lift. Many hikers choose to take the lift up in summer months, and then continue north to Bald Knob, before going downhill back to the parking area.

This trail was excellent! The view from the top is so worth the hike to the top of Bald Knob! Very well marked and easy to stay on path.

Amazing views at the top, but literally a steep uphill climb the entire way to it. We went a couple days after it had rained for 2 days straight and it was still damp. Glad we had hiking boots, cause there would’ve been lots of slipping and wet socks if we had worn sneakers.

Gorgeous views, especially now in mid October. Not easy wearing a child and coaching a toddler but definitely doable. Absolute fog and no views at the bald overlook today but the views all the way up were well worth the effort. Six year old and three year old also enjoyed it.

Great hike great views. Out and back kind of stinks though. Continue your hike and make it a loop by walking down one of the ski slopes. Turns into a 3.7 mile hike.

Such a quick but gorgeous hike. Not too crowded up top, even with a decent amount of people there.

Good terrain was easy but be ready to go up right away with an elevation gain of 1000 feet over the first mile then coast. Good afternoon hike. Great views. The actual Bald Knob Peak is not part of the actual trail on Alltrails but shoot off to the left after the first 1.2 miles about a quarter of a mile and you will get the best views. It is pretty obvious.

We took the chairlift up to the top and the trail start immediately at the end of the lift. Because of this, the trail is only 2.5 miles for us. The walk in the woods is nice and peaceful as you can find lots of moss covered ground and logs. Once you come out of the woods and get into the open meadows area, there are no more shades. The overlook on the valley is nice.

Awesome hike! 1st mile is steep but not too bad. Bring water and take some breaks. Missed the Bald Knob sign but had a nice payoff at the top with the stunning views at hang glider launch. A couple muddy spots but nothing terrible. We had a nice range of ages from 3 to 54 and very few complaints .

The first half is VERY strenuous- no joke!! At about the 1/2 way point, the trail comes to an opening and says to turn right but make sure you go left up one final steep ascent to get to Bald Knob. The views are fantastic and there are rocks along the ridge to follow. Also lots of blueberries to pick. We then retuned to the trail and continued to the end- we’ll worth it in our opinion as checking out the ski slopes and hand gliding launch point were interesting (plus after the knob there is no more uphill). The part had some fairly muddy points that our teenagers in their sneakers could not avoid. The ski lifts were running today which would have been a much easier way to get to the knob but the climb was invigorating and the payoff worth it!

This trail is very very steep! Be sure to take breaks on the way up and bring plenty of water. The trail does eventually flatten out, but I wouldn't make this your first trail if you're new to hiking. Follow the green diamonds for Bald Knob.. it's definitely worth the hike.

Trail was great! Definitely straight up hill the first mile. We went on some of the connecting trails as well which were mostly shaded and were flat. Beautiful views. Make sure to go all the way to the end of the trail, it is not as much of an uphill as it seems from afar. Take some time to explore up top where the ski lifts end. Beautiful views from the hang gliding launch site as well and a good place to sit down and take in the views. It was muddy in spots which was more of an issue coming down so take your time doing so.

What a view from Bald Knob! Gorgeous. I began this hike at 5:00pm and never saw a single soul. I parked up near the archery/clay shooting center. As previous hikers mentioned, the first half of the hike is straight up. Whew - what a workout. But my poor knees coming down. I’d definitely do it again though!

Several others have noted that this trail goes up! (See Yi-Shin Sheu for specifics and on where to park). I'd also note that there is a *second* trail also called the Bald Knob Trail, which we tried to follow and found poorly marked.
