Beautiful hike with snow patches in the woods . The previous snowfall didn’t completely melt which resulted in stunning landscape and frozen waterfalls in areas . Terrain is very soft .

A little muddy, but a beautiful trail full of twists, turns, magical trees and currently plenty of fall foliage. Elakala Falls is a hidden treasure and I thoroughly enjoyed photographing it.

yellow birch and elkala trails A+. Go down to the Elkala falls if you're surefooted.

Balanced Rock itself was slightly underwhelming, and I might have missed it if someone I passed didn't point out that I was at it! Otherwise, a nice trail, definitely muddy in places, but understandable with the recent heavy rain.

Very muddy in spots, but otherwise a great hike. Enjoyed seeing the waterfall and rock.

I would say this trail is more moderate than easy - lots of roots and uneven ground. But the forest was very pretty and there were some nice cairns along the way! The very beginning had a beautiful waterfall.

At least 60% of the trail was muddy and marshy maybe because it rained hard two days ago. High-cut shoes where water won’t get in is highly recommended. Lots of moss on the trail. If the earth was dry the trail would be easier. There’s a part where I think they remove a collapsed bridge so you had to cross the stream. Some of the markings in the trees are blurred so you have to look closer and be more careful in looking for the exact trail. Side trip to balanced rock.

The falls are beautiful. Besides the falls and further down stream, it’s less scenic. We diverted from the path quite often. Make sure to follow the marks along the trail so you don’t get lost.

Really enjoyed this trail - out and back to Balanced Rock. Elakala Falls was beautiful today. Be careful - after some rain, everything is pretty slick. I almost busted my ass on the bridge. Very muddy too. Other than that, fantastic morning hike.

Good hike but does suck that most of it follows the road so you don’t fully get the feeling of being outdoors plus people can drive to the overlook of Blackwater falls so it could be busy when you hiked all the way there & people just drove.
