Ski the trees and open glades near Stevens Pass just 90 minutes from Seattle. The Yodelin backcountry ski tour is located just east of the Stevens Pass ski area on the site of an abandoned smaller ski area that was operating in the 1960's. You'll see remnants of the ski runs and some structures along the tour route as you make your way up the ridge to the main descents of this tour. The tour is truly a yo-yo tour - plan on 3-4 trips up and down the slopes to make good use of the terrain that is available. The beauty of this tour is the ease of access and stability of the snow. Route finding is important as if you miss the terrain landmarks, you could run into trouble finding your way back to the parking lot.

This snow shoe was passed on word of mouth and I couldnt find much on it. I was able to find a GPX that loaded into All Trails for navigation. I wouldnt call this easy, more like moderate but could be made hard if chosen. Parking was easy and free with no pass needed. We just started up and followed the trail upwards. We then veered off the ski trails and crossed a saddle and climbed a ridge line. This hike was done on an overcast day as the lower elevations were rain but we managed to get above the snow level. The views were nice but cloudy. If you went down the valley at the end you could would be at the Stevens Nordic Center. On the return we broke trail up a knob and explored. Where as we didnt have great views the scenery and beauty walking through the trees was incredible. We saw a few skiers but no others with snow shoes. Great exploration hike!
