Easy trail/road that connects with alot of other trails on the mountain. it is a gradual up hill. I would call this more easy than moderate. Beautiful views of the mountain.

This is a definite must visit for Mt. Saint Helens. Much better than the visitors center Have some basic history and information (pictures) and some geology information before you get there and the area will come alive. It's amazing to see giant trees floating in the lake over 30 years later, the trees stumps where the tree was sheared off by the blast and see areas protected and new growth and new lava domes.

The trail to the viewpoint is almost entirely steps. beyond that is fairly flat and dusty but a geological treasure trove.

On a clear day, you'll see Mt. Rainier, Adams, Hood and more.

The drive in is long, the road is bumpy and at times the road is gravel but mostly paved. Plan on a good 2+ hours from Randle. There are bathroom facilities at the trailhead.

And yes, it is windy...so bring a light jacket or long sleeved shirt.

Starting at the end of Hwy99 to the Windy Ridge, take the Smith Creek Trail staircase up to the Harmony Lake Viewpoint area for Mt. St. Helens and Spirit Lake, with a 360 view of the surrounding mountains, including Mt. Rainier in the distance. Awesome scenery.
