The Ozette Triangle Trail is a must do hike that is safe year around. I chose to hike clock wise. The first leg included long sections of boardwalks. In the winter these are slippery. I used nano spikes over my boots and was sure footed the whole time.. The beach section of the trail was absolutely beautifully rugged. This remote beach had a lot of fishing and marine artifacts, bouys, ropes, large containers and boat fragments. The beach provided bird viewing opportunities, heron, eagles, blue jays, ravens and many more. It may be important to plan this hike with the tides in mind. I luckily caught a low tide, but I’m not sure how passable the beach section would be in a plus tide. The last leg of the trail was similar to the first, but with a bit more elevation gain, all though this hike is overall remarkably flat. If your thinking about hiking this trail, do it, you won’t be disappointed.

Solid walk along the trail through the forest to the beach. The trail is well maintained, with considerable sections of boardwalk. A few varied pieces of elevation, but nothing to worry about and would be fine more most walkers. The real treat is getting to the edge of the forest, looking through the trees to the water and making the way to the beach. Rockformations, beautiful sand, deer and eagles. Solid walk.

First to Review

The Cape Alava Trail is a mostly level hike through a varied old growth/second growth forest with interesting open "prairies" of stunted forest growing in bogs. In August the prairies were actually hot and humid on the return hike. Much of the trail is a boardwalk owing to the muddiness of the forest floor. Payoff is arriving at the coast and Wedding Rocks with some interesting petroglyphs. Most use this trail to backpack north on the coastal trail to Point of Arches, but Lake Ozette is a great secluded camping area itself, especially if you bring canoes/kayaks. Get there early, there are only about a dozen first-come campsites at the lake.
