Wapato Park lies in a beautiful setting of lake and forest and is one of the most urban parks in the city. Visitors can enjoy display gardens, a walking trail around the lake (.9 miles) and an impressive, historic pergola WAPATO ANNUAL GARDEN The historic pergola, a crescent-shaped arbor with an open roof and tall columns, has lent a hint of Italian garden to this South End park's main entryway since 1938. The structure was restored in 2001 and serves as the backdrop for year-round seasonal color. Flower baskets hang from beams encircled by rows of blooms. WAPATO PICNIC SHELTERS Three areas are available inside the park: Wapato Park Kiwanis Picnic Shelter Wapato Park Main Picnic Shelter Wapato Park Pavilion The Kiwanis and Main shelters are reservable for the months April-September. Reservations may be made up to 365 days in advance. During all other months they are free to use and are available on a first-come first-served basis. WAPATO DOG PARK Wapato features three fully fenced areas for pets to romp leash free with their owners - including one reserved just for small dogs. Water, benches and shelters are provided on-site.

Very nice short, paved trail around lake. Beautiful scenery and wildlife viewing of birds, turtles, ducks etc..

The park has a nicely paved loop around the pond and is appropriate for all ages and abilities. Good for 2 loops and then it’s gets a little boring. It also has a nice playground for the kids and picnic tables. Parking is limited by the police station, but there’s also a second lot with more parking.

Lovely walking trail. Our 18 month kiddo did the whole loop. It was paved an easy for him. He was able to observe several ducks, red winged blackbirds, and ravens interacting with one another, which he enjoyed. I wouldn't classify it as hiking, but a lovely place for the family to spend a little time. Very well maintained, very beautiful.

Pretty decent place for a run. nice view around the lake. The path is concrete so a little hard and it was very busy. Looked like a nice playground for the kids. It's a little up and down but nothing to bad. I'll go back...

This is a neat little spot that's clean, and easy to reach. Don't miss the other trails and the bridge that are at this spot..and make sure to look for the turtles down by the water!

A nice walk around a large pond/small lake. Quite busy, but a nice wide paved path with several unpaved offshoots to explore. The dog had a blast exploring, so that's all that matters. PS...Don't trust the pond water for your dogs, so bring plenty for your dogs.

This is a nice paved walkway around Wapato Lake, right off S 72nd and Sheridan, in Tacoma, WA. There's wildlife, ducks and all that kind of stuff you find in lakes (yes fish too, bring a pole). There's a bridge that crosses over the water so you get to see all that. Nice people. Just a very enjoyable in-town outing imo. Somethin you can do on your lunch break really! Enjoy

a lot of fun!!

Urban setting. More of a place for a picnic, the kiddos to ride their bikes and play on the toys. Not a hike or what I would call a trail, it's a paved road around a lake.

Its all about the dog park! Great off-leash area for big dogs! Big open field, and another area with trails and trees. The walk around the lake (leashed only) was pleasant. Diverse groups of people wandering around walking, biking, jogging. Well kept.

Not much to say but this trail… It’s short and pretty, well-maintained and facilities available. I went with my son so deal was is that he would do the trail with me if when we were done, I would take him to the small playground onsite.

This is a beautiful place for a walk. When we went this time last year we saw a beautiful owl in a tree and got some nice pictures of it. It wasn’t too busy either, not a lot of people.

There’s so much to do at this trail. You can walk around the paved trail with kids on their bicycles or skates, or you can hit the more wooded trails and discover more nature scenes. There is a few fun bridges to find and lots of beautiful scenery to “get lost” in. Can’t believe this park is in the middle of Tacoma!

I really like this park and there is more to see than just walking the mostly paved trail around the lake. Take a venture to the white pillars, walk around the beautiful waterfall towards the dog parks. There is a very cool pipeline trail that I had no idea was there and it was very cool to experience.

It’s a nice easy level trail, all concrete, well maintained, family, and dog friendly. Nice view of the small lake, lots of greenery, and lots of places to sit.

nice well maintained trail with good volume of users, but trail is wide enough nobody feels like they're 'on top' of one another. look forward to coming back when spring is a little further along and trees and flowers are blossoming

Pretty urban wilderness area with a beautiful lake and lots of ducks. Easy trail around the lake with a dog park and off-leash dog trails on the vicinity as well. I ran around Wapato on a sunny afternoon in winter with ice on the lake and ducks walking on water. Not too crowded and everyone I met was friendly. Seems a wonderful dog-friendly place to take a quick run.

I enjoy the walk around the lake even at night- their is such a calm peacefulness. Went for a jog/ fast walk after dark. Did 4 miles. There was a few people out with their dogs, and I brought mine along. I felt safe. I like that the police station is at the entrance off 72nd street. My first time walking here at night. The crisp air filling my lungs felt so good

Walked this trail many times over the years.Noticed I need to start getting out more - walked 3xs around lake today and 2xs in off leash dog area with my Aussie Amy. Enjoy taking my dogs to the off-leash dog park area. I also like the 2 foot bridges- they are located off away from the main loop around the lake. Just ask and people will point out the path to take to find the foot bridges.Happy Trails!!!
