The trail itself is decent if you just want to walk. Pretty disappointed in the "forest" which is now just several,16 maybe, petrified trees in iron cages. The visitor center a few miles up the road in Vantage with petroglyphs was worth stopping for to see lava beds and other not caged petrified trees. If you swing by the gift shop, they can point you in the direction of both trails, which start a good ten miles from each other somewhat confused on the trail the one listed here was very short but very cool.

Stopped to do this hike after briefly visiting the Gingko Petrified Forest State Park that is two miles further down Vantage Hwy. Discover Pass is required. I believe there is a fee box if you do not have a pass. The trails are groomed. The different petrified log specimens kept my seven year old occupied on the hike. WTA refers to this trail as Gingko Petrified Forest Interpretive Trails. Could be a good place to stop and stretch your legs for a bit if you're on a long road trip.

We picked a windy day to visit, but it was a nice hike. I brought all 3 of my children and they did great! There's a few different trail options ranging from 3/4 mile to 3 miles. The actual petrified wood exhibits was fascinating to look at, but somewhat lack-luster. It would have been nice if there were more info available to read about the site, wood, ect... If you're looking for a low-key family hike, this is it! Beautiful peek-a-boo views of the Columbia River! I'd take my kids back again.

Trees are in cages and the trail is otherwise uninteresting. Nice side trip though. Very hot and dry in August.

The trails are well marked and maintained, but there's not a whole lot going on. The stumps that make up the petrified forest are caged, so not very magical. Other than those, it's the same scrubland that covers the rest of the area.
