Good balance between exposed and forested. Very quiet on a Wednesday. Decent views of the river
Did route clockwise. Climb up was a bit overgrown with ticks and cattails. The last bit of hike is on the highway to complete the loop. Nice views of the gorge. Hood was covered in clouds, but it was there.
This trail was so fun. We did it clockwise and the west side of the hike around mile 2ish is TICK HEAVEN! We picked AT LEAST 40 if not more off my yellow lab. They were just in patches all over her. I had 2 get up my pant leg. However, after that we had no problems at all with them. We did see people on the hike but most people stayed on the Catherine Creek trail and didn’t go as far out as this trail and stays on the far more open east side. Overall a great hike within the Catherine Creek Recreation Area and we will definitely be back (and more prepared for ticks)!
Loved it! Fresh snow today—it was beautiful! We didn’t have poles or cramp ons, and we didn’t have any major issues, but those both would have been helpful!
Great hike with wide open views of the Columbia River and Mt Hood. Definitely worth the drive.
Nice spot with great gorge views and grassy meadow areas with wildflowers! Way up was pretty steep but doable, was a large tree over the path we had to scramble over. It was a steep hillside, so feet were at an angle for a lot of the ascent. Would have had perfect hood views if the clouds weren’t blocking her top!
there are many different options to do loops, but I do recommend following Catherine Creek (after the crossing) on the right side. So the creek goes on your left. It is a beautiful and narrow path going up and quite steep. Once you are on Tracy Hill the views are stunning but when you come down it is a little boring sometimes as the track doesn't really change. And the path I chose in the end, was really rocky. But beautiful area, really recommend.
not a bad trail. a bit crowded in spots. still a fair amount of snow on the upper half. saw herds of dear, bald eagles, some wild flowers, and hipsters.
Trail could use some widening at certain points.
