Beautiful, family-friendly hike. The forest road wasn’t in too bad of shape, which was a nice change of pace. We went on a sunny Saturday and hardly saw anyone. A little buggy, but not too bad given how warm it was.

We hiked into Fisher Lake for a few days. The bugs were having a great time feasting on us. The Tonga Ridge trail was fairly crowded, but we had Fisher Lake mostly to ourselves. Side trips to the Ptarmigan and Jewel Lakes made for a little adventure in bushwhacking and route-finding. The Tonga Ridge trail is fairly easy all the way up to Sawyer Pass, and has some nice views off to the south. The last portion, from Sawyer Pass to Fisher Lake, takes some effort, as it climbs straight up a drainage and over a high saddle, then drops straight back down to the lake. We saw very little wildlife, other than the brook trout teeming in the lake.

A very easy, level trail just South of the ridge i.e., not a "ridge walk" by most definitions. Later in the summer the berries will be out in force. Side trips to either summit Sawyer or explore Fisher Lakes and their neighbors are the true reason to explore this trail.

The mountain views and fields of flowers were perfect for a late afternoon walk in the woods for me and my wife.

got to within 1-1/2 miles of trailhead, but the large patch of snow at the start of FR 310 was too large for my 4 wheel pathfinder to get through. will try again in a month when all the snow is gone.

If you love berry picking on your way up the trail, this one is for you. Be careful of bear, it is bear territory. Very steep at the begining and keeps climing, you will finally level off towards the end, around the ridge. Awesome views and yummy blueberries
