Ski the cross country trail from Winthrop to the Sun Mountain trail system and back. The Methow Valley has superb groomed cross country trails that weave through the valley and surrounding mountains. This tour takes you from Winthrop up a steady climb the the Sun Mountain trail system and back. It is a full day of XC skiing with great views, sun, forest and sky to enjoy.

This trail says it’s open year round but be warned it is winter-only access from town. We tried to access it near the skate rink and it’s a private road with big no hiking signs. Evidently you will have your park privileges taken away if you try to walk it. You will have to get in your car and drive up towards Sun Mountain to find an access. Very frustrating that the info on their website and on this app is incorrect.
