Not many views on the way into the lake, but the lake itself is picturesque. Okay for a day hike. However, if you are going to expend the hiking/backpacking energy to get to Swamp Lake, in my opinion you should continue on and either visit American or Cougar Lakes—both of which are much better and will only cost another hour of hiking.

As hikers we found this nice trail heavily impacted by the equestrians with lots of horse dung. It is a nice hike through old growth forest and we did not encounter any equestrians on our midweek hike. The access road FS 1800 is quite rough and rocky - requires a high clearance vehicle for sure.
