Oct 16-17. Sunrise to mystic lake, camped for the night, back the next day. Some snow on the trail, not enough to need spikes but probably a good idea to bring them. We had heavy wind and rain heading out total time 4 hour 30 min. Cool, sunny, and gorgeous for the hike back took 4 hour 45 min. The ridge out and back was real windy. Trail is easy to follow and you get an amazing view of the glacier. One water crossing didn't have a bridge but we were able to hop across on the rocks. Mystic camp has a bunch of individual and group sites. Camp is about a quarter mile below the lake and situated so you don't get much wind. Highly recommend for a great weekend hike!

Trail is in great shape. Ran from Sunrise to Mystic Lake and back and recorded exactly 18 miles.

Day 1. Sunrise to Mystic Camp. Got an early start and it was cooler than last year so seemed easier. Just blown away from the beauty of the area. Staying overnight for 4 nights, 5 days.

First to Review

It was an absolutely ludicrous choice to hike this in a day, but apparently, the parks service had recently conducted a hazardous tree survey that meant closing 7 of the 8 campsites at Mystic Lake, leaving us no other option. It remains one of my all time favorite hikes. There were few people up until Skyscraper Mtn and almost none past it. We saw marmots, pikas, and mountain goats, crossed the foot of the Winthrop glacier, and had lunch on the shore of Mystic Lake. The bridge was washed down the creek at the time, though by some miracle still passable. The switchback section on the way out was absolutely brutal on my weak beginner's knees, but I survived.
