Ok. There was snow 2 miles before TH and we got stuck in our outback. So hiked an additional 4 miles. June hike expected snow, no bugs. Trail had good view of Mount Saint Helens and Adams. Road directions were poor. Easy to miss forest service road to get to TH. Should have checked with FS—but they are always closed on Sundays!

This is a hidden gem in Gifford Pinchot National Forest, about 1 hour North of the Gorge. Finding the forest road up to the trailhead is the hard part, but if you follow directions on the internet, you’ll find it. (It’s a fairly steep drive up to an abandoned quarry at around 5000 feet I’d guess.). The hike itself is quick and easy with big payoffs: Mt Adams in your face, Mt Rainier framed through the trees, and Mt Hood in the distance. This hike is just the ticket for a quick hiking experience when time is short. About 15 miles out of Trout Lake, WA to the access road up the mountain. The drive from Carson, WA to the access road is very scenic, especially if you’re not familiar with the area.
