This was a great day hiking. While there were several cars in the parking lot (September, Thursday, noon) I happened on only one person along the trail. As mentioned in previous reviews this trail is loaded with junctions. There should be maps at the information station at the trailhead; take one of the maps form the information station at the trailhead.

The trail is generally flat until after Shy Bear Pass. When the elevation changes come they do so quickly. At this point the trail also switches from smooth to rocky. Nothing technical but you will want to watch your foot placement.

While the route doesn’t specifically include it I do recommend taking the short spur to Wilderness Peak. Sign the registry, have sit on the bench, and enjoy the moment. While the peak lacks a stunning view you should never miss an opportunity to summit.
