A short and pleasant enough walk that can be coupled with a return via the Sunrise Campground Trail or Sourdough Ridge Trail. The section to the lake doesn't offer as much in terms of views as other hikes around though, and if you have the time, I would encourage you to take a longer one. Wish we had the time to do that when we visited. That said,

7/30/2017 (Sunday) -- A short and easy loop with beautiful views of mountains, meadows with booming flowers, a small and serene lake with light traffic going clockwise. Most hikers return from their larger "Sunrise Rim" loop from the other direction.

The trail is pretty easy, it does have some ups and downs but they are very mild. Plenty of wild flowers when we went, lots of break out areas to see huge patches of flowers. Saw more than a few kids on it, so it is even good for families.

The lake is small, but really pretty as you hook around it. Nice and calm, good place to take a break before returning.

You can return back on the same trail, or take a service road back. The service road is smooth and an easy return if you are looking for a quick return. It isn't as pretty, but you do get good views of the rest of the mountain.
