Sares Head is a 1.3 mile moderately trafficked loop trail located near Anacortes, Washington that features a great forest setting and is good for all skill levels. The trail is primarily used for hiking, walking, nature trips, and bird watching and is best used from April until September.
Shelly Loop had running water down the trail. Avoid after rains.
Just completed this super easy, and totally worth it hike/walk. Ditto to what everyone else has said about the views! Amazing, especially on a beautiful clear day like today. Great family trail, even for little ones. Trail is very well marked. I took the Shelly Loop Trail in my way down. A tiny incline, and tree roots, but not difficult at all. I arrived around noon, and there were only about 8 cars in the lot. WARNING - passed a mom with three young kids who said they were all stung by yellow jackets on the Broom-Tomb Loop Trail, which is the upper extension of Sares Head. I cannot confirm this as I took her warning, and did not go up there. Super disappointed in the amount of irresponsible dog owners that don’t pick up their dogs poo :( BE RESPONSIBLE or don’t bring them! Happy Hiking! Enjoy:)
My husband and I did this hike with our 3 year old yesterday and it was INCREDIBLE! The sun was out, the trail was only muddy in a few spots, you could hear bees buzzing at the top but never bothered us, the trail is mostly marked well, and it’s super easy for a little toddler to hike by themselves (if they are already used to walking a lot/hiking.) The view at the top is breathtaking! It’s amazing that for such an easy, short hike, you get an incredible view! We had the view to ourselves, too! I was shocked there weren’t more people there, but there are other trails attached to this trail. I highly recommend!
Lovely hike with many loop options to extend our day out. Outstanding lookouts!!! The clouds broke, sun came out & blue skies greeted us.
