This was a wonderful trail up to one of the most amazing vistas I’ve ever seen. I could see all the way into Nevada. I highly recommend this trail. Beware: don’t get confused with the multiple season maps around. Follow the green trail on the map at the bottom of the trail sign, not the cross country map on the campground board!

Puffer Butte is a moderate hike, and fairly short. Initially the trail is surrounded by trees and wildflowers until you reach the top, where the trail opens and provides an excellent view of the surrounding mountains. Hikers should note that there are active bears in the area. We encountered two brown bears at a distance that seemed to care less we were near. There is one large cabin at the top where you can take a break, but no facilities/running water. There isn't much shade once you reach the top. All in all, the trail took about two hours.
