Description
Waypoints (1)

This well-marked and easy loop through Point Defiance Park is a great option for the whole family. You'll pass by several great viewpoints of the Puget Sound, the historic Fort Nisqually, and several great spots to stop for a picnic. If time allows, check out the zoo and aquarium near the parking lot at the start. Accessibility: Some parts of this trail may be difficult to navigate with a wheelchair/mobility equipment or stroller. It is partially paved (if parking by the zoo) and partially dirt and mostly gentle with some steep sections that are up to 12%. After rainstorms, the trail may be muddy and roots and rocks may be exposed. A more accessible, paved trail in the area is Five Mile Drive and that trail can be viewed here: https://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/washington/five-mile-drive

HikingBugsGreat!

A wonderful trail system in the gorgeous Point Defiance peninsula, with various attractions for all ages. There's the PD Zoo & Aquarium, multiple lookouts and viewpoints of Vashon & Gig Harbor along the trail loop, pristine views of the Olympic mountains and the Tacoma Narrows bridge, flower gardens, wooded day use areas, marina access, a beach, an old pioneer era fort, and more! Went on a rare April bluebird day, walked the entire loop and checked out everything the area had to offer and to finish the day, sat down at the beachfront and watched the sailboats float by with the gorgeous Olympic and Cascade mountain ranges towering over horizon. I highly recommend this area to everyone, especially on a clear sunny day. I will absolutely be back in the future to enjoy the scenery once again!

Beautiful day, trail maintained amazingly. However, with the dozens and dozens of people out walking, NOT 1 person wore a mask, not O.N.E. Wow!

Muddy in some parts, and certain trails closed. AllTrails markers follow part of inner loop instead.

Muddy trails for most of the hike. But the views around the point are amazing. The AllTrails map doesn’t follow the trail markers though but you eventually will meet at the same place. There was a good amount of people on trail. Started at 1:00pm but found parking easily.

This was a pretty nice trail for being right in the city. It was fairly busy at 4 pm on a sunny weekday, but not too bad. Easy parking. Much of the trail is pretty close to the road so there’s some car noise, but not too bad. Shady spots, gong mossy trees, and nice water views along the trail. It was pretty muddy today, but it’s not that kind that sucks you down and rips off your boots, and it was easy enough to walk around most places. Very easy trail, and bike free.

Little muddy in spots. The 5-mile loop closes to cars at 2pm on weekdays and all weekend so it was great not having car noise. Beautiful views of Puget Sound and lots of trail options.

Not bad! The trails are a little muddy right now and you will come across some people, but overall it is a nice respite from civilization that's not too far from it. There are some nice views along the way as well.

Well groomed & well marked trail. Follow the dark blue signs. The trail was pretty muddy but that was to be expected. Nice water lookouts. Heavily trafficked
