Beginning portion is awesome. Black flies on the trail were definitely a nuisance. Decent view of Mt Olympus at a couple points.

Good trail a bit overgrown at the top, but most are this time of year.

Beginning had the beautiful waterfalls. 4 miles in hike is moderate. After the junction sign you will be climbing the side of a mountain with few switchbacks and long 30% inclines. If you go in July the east side of the pass may have too much snow to pass. Just make a right turn and go up the ridge to the side of the snow banks through the campsites to a beautiful level area about 500 feet up south of the pass. Awesome views. We encountered a two year buck also.

I arrived at Appleton Pass off trail. It was quite memorable. Anytime you can get to this area of the Olympics you won't regret it. This area is amazing!
