Great trail. It's a little dusty right now- we could use a little rain.

Love this trail!

This is a review of the trail from above Bonaparte Lake to Mt. Bonaparte. Note that the closest way to drive to this goes through about a mile of nonforest service land that is extremely rough and should only be used by high clearance 4wd. You can drive up past Bonaparte lake and drop down past Lost lake to access this trailhead. There are other trails to this peak, this one is 10 miles round trip. We tried to hike this June 1st 2013 and found it very clogged with blowdowns. The first mile or so is steep and clear and pretty. After that is it just forest and constant over, under and around the blowdowns. We got so exhausted that by the time we got to the junction with 4th of July Trail, we gave it up as we could see that it continued to be littered with down trees. There were no views in this part so it wasn't very interesting.
