This trail closes seasonally in Winter due to severe road conditions.
Fun day, but the trail is mostly gravel road or gravel hiking path except the uphil part.
Great if not a bit rainy day to get out. Trail was in good shape, only a few stream crossings where I had to hop across. Will do again.
Honestly this loop isn’t good. It goes through a park with no signs and then follows a road onto more logging road. There are no signs at the top even tho it splits into 3, so you need to have all trails map to be able to see where you are and where you should turn. Most of this is just on a logging road or road. Only good portion is part of the bell mountain trail which is actual forest and the falls itself. All and all only about 2 of the miles make it worth it.
01/13/21 There are essentially two parts to this trail: the mostly flat, paved lower section, and the upper section which feels more like a true hike to me. If you go clockwise,, the upper section follows Bells Mountain trail for about a mile before veering back towards the loop. The trail was in remarkably good condition, given the recent storms. There were a couple river crossings that are not possible without getting your feet a little wet, but most wet areas had well-maintained foot bridges, which was a nice surprise. The elevation gain is just enough to get your heart rate up and your legs burning a bit, but nothing terribly strenuous. The lower section is much more popular, especially in the afternoon. Very few people wore masks when passing, but it's nice and wide and therefore easy to maintain social distance. All in all, this was a nice hike. Local enough to be convenient, no snow, and quick to finish.
The trail was... interesting. I did enjoy it and could see how it is really quite perfect for trail running! I will return at some point to do so. However, I prefer hiking in the forest or meadows or... and much of this was simply "road". Thankful for All Trails maps...would have gotten lost had I not followed my little blue arrow! Simple hike... not difficult, 7 miles in 2.5. Next time, will go earlier (I started the hike at 235 so walked back in near dark) and add a mile or so by hooking over to the Lucia Falls Loop! In spite of the rain, enjoyed the roaring of the river and all the little streams along this trek.
Loved the scenery. A small section of the hike was challenging, the rest was a very easy and relaxing .
Nothing special. 5.3 miles of paved trail and fire roads. So many better hikes to do. I wouldn’t bother with it again.
