Hiked this on 08/23/2020 Went my own route Pros; A nice hike through the woods no bugs today very light traffic. only ran into three seperate small groups of horse back riders Dogs enjoyed it Cons; No maps posted or left at trailhead A lot of trails here not shown on this app. which is why I went my own way Mostly Tight narrow Trails. Made bypassing horse back groups difficult but manageable No Mtn views on my portion Trails could use updated markings Lastly as of my Trails I've noticed here in State of WA not the best maintained, overgrown but not the worse. Still recommend doing this, if you're not looking to go far and just get out with doggos or horses

This trail is a horse trail. It was very muddy and there are thigh high ruts. I would not recommend this trail. When we finally finished the hike two men, that we saw putting their horses in the trailer, laughed and asked if we were crazy to do the trail without a horse.

HikingMuddy

Hiked on Sat, 5/16. If you’re looking to get outside and take a little nature walk, this is a good trail. It’s mostly used as an equestrian trail or mountain biking, but that made it less trafficked than other hikes around. We didn’t see any other hikers, cyclists or horses all day. The trail is muddy and not well signed for this specific route. We chose to go on the Upper Elk Spur route at the first junction. Don’t take the Fawn crossing and after the Bear Creek campground, the trail takes you to a gravel road and picks up across the way, going uphill. At the next Y junction, take the Bull’s Run. We started to continue to Upper Elk Spur, but thankfully realized we were off trail without taking too much of a detour. While there’s no spectacular views or cool waterfalls on this hike and you can hear people shooting their guns at the shooting area near by, it was still a nice hike outdoors. We also didn’t have to deal with anyone else on the trail.

Nice trail for example of PNW Forest. Trail is in great shape. Lots of elevation about 1/4 the way in. Phone died about half way, map is only partial

overall it was okay the lower portion super muddy and torn up because of the horses. The signage could be better. I made a wrong turn and ended up going way out of the way because the sign had bull run which wasn't either the lower elk spur or the Beaver Creek loop so I went the other way.

Walking

There are many places to access the trails through the horse camp, most of them through the backs of campsites. If you poke around you'll find one. It's a horse trail but still ok to walk along. Not a lot to see, unless you simply enjoy walking through the woods. Fortunately I'm into that. And even though the camp was packed with people, I didn't see a single other person the entire 3 hours I was out there exploring My only real issue with this area is that there is a shooting range really close by, which interferes with the serenity I seek in hiking. There are many trails and they are not well marked, but I had cell service and could follow my progress on the map. I only went a few miles, so I'm not sure if that is true later along the route. It's extremely muddy, but for the most part it's dry and easy to pass. Only had to get across wet mud a handful of times. There is one giant, borderline-unpassable muddy spot, but if you double back about 20 feet, there is a path on the right that goes around it.

Nice hike with the dog! On a Sunday only saw 2 other people the whole time. A bit muddy in parts but not bad. Nice mix of scenery and terrain.
