Buddy and I did this trail for some fishing at round lake, just to check it out, we did not do the whole ridge but it continues on to Lake Byrne as well. The hike to Round Lake is a grind. We are quick hikers and this hike held us back. Starts at an elevation of 1800 feet and gains 3700 to 5500, the views on the ridge are amazing. At points you can see on either side of the ridge to peaks very near the trail. The wild flowers are gorgeous and the hills covered in green which is amazing. Snow has melted all around but Round Lake was still mostly covered. Do this hike. You won't see people, and there are plenty places to stop and turn around without going the full 20 miles. Turn this into a day hike and enjoy views as good (I think better) than pilchuck without the masses of people and the awful bugs!
