Huge, old-growth stumps are everywhere in the park. There is a giant wooden ball carved from a single log by a local logging legend. Story has it the logger could stand atop the floating ball and "walk it" from one end of the lake to the other. The area is rich with logging lore and history. The park is open year round for camping and day use. The group camp is reservable April 1 through September 30. The area also offers great opportunities for kayaking and paddle boarding. Check-in time, 2:30 p.m. Check-out time, 1 p.m. Quiet hours: 10 p.m. to 6:30 a.m. *Discover Pass Required

O.K. Trail to hike for a state park, the Sylvia Creek Forestry trail just west of the park is a good trail to hike too.

Lots of people. Not good for social distancing.

Great family walk with lots of little bridge crossings. There are a few areas with steep steps but the trail is otherwise relatively flat and easy. Some areas were very muddy along the trail.

Real easy hike, however it is flooded at one end. We took the brownie trail to this travel and avoided the flooding. It’s pretty muddy (it’s winter!)

Cougar sightings around park boundary

We loved the trail but we had to stop and turn back half way through due to excessive flooding over the trail. Not surprising considering the amount of rain we have been getting lately.

My 6yo grandson and I thoroughly enjoyed the trail. It takes you on a boardwalk over a little piece of the lake and you can see an old wooden dam still in place. And then you start walking into the woods. Beautiful greens all around-ferns, oxalis, deciduous trees, evergreens. The Interpretive signs are a great way for kids (and adults) to learn about nature -our banana slug is the second largest slug in the world! Both of us had a good time and he got to play on the play structure when we returned to the park area. We would definitely hike this one again.

Great trail system in here for conditioning for many entry levels. You can extend the hike in many directions from here. The Forestry Trail is a great hike not to be missed if you’re looking for a quick 2.25 mile addition. staying at lake Sylvia is always a treat (weekdays, not weekends). Fishing & kayaking are both popular here as well. It’s our weekday getaway in the summer.

Best small park gem I’ve found in years. Beautiful park, well maintained and well cared for. Old growth everywhere!

We go here every year usually occupying 2 sites with our row boats, kayaks, fishing gear, kids and dogs. Plenty of room for RVs, Bus or VanCamper like us ... always a good time tho bring the mosquito spray.

Another great trip to Lake Sylvia State Park. I highly recommend this park. It's close to home and a great little short get away for the day. Great place for kids too!

Always my favorite little jaunt when I want to get out of olympia, but don’t have the time to go too far. It holds its beauty year round!

The trails are starting to get a little muddy in places and there was 4 to 5 inches of water over the Lake Trail near the north end on the west side. The upper sections of the Sylvia Ridge and Brownie trails go through a recent clear cut.

Easy trail for kids. Neat little covered bridge along the way!

Thu Jun 21 2018

There are two loops, 1.5 and 2.8 miles, and we hiked both. Trails wind up and down through old growth and new. Small and large bridges cross the lake, river, and creeks. Don’t miss the covered hiking bridge on the smaller loop. We met three nice dogs on leashes. Their owners were well-behaved.

They have the trails well marked at the moment which is nice. Hopefully no one moves the markers this time

We did the Brownie trail and then came back around to the lake. it was about 4.5 miles total. The first part of the hike was very steep but then it flattened out at the top. Great hike! There are much longer hikes here for those who want more.
