I did this hike on June 4, 2017. The original plan was to take the Lake George Trail and continue up to Gobbler's Knob from Mt Rainier national park. As of 6-4-2017, there is still heavy snowpack on this trail and the lake is frozen over.

The road walk to round pass isn't overly scenic but along the river and the ridge is a nice area. Round pass is where the snow cover begins, and the trail to lake George has some bare areas in the beginning but then is still pretty heavy with snowpack as soon as a little elevation is gained.

There are some scenic views of mt rainier on the trail. Lake George has a nice covered area to camp, a vault toilet and a patrol house. At this time of year it's empty but I imagine later in summer it's a well camped area.

We lost the trail at the lake George area and did not continue up to gobblers Knob fire lookout but all in all this is a good hike!
