BackpackingGreat!Rocky

I did this route reversed in a 3d/2n thru backpack, with a day hike/climb of Pyramid Peak. Used Devil's Dream as base camp. Started at Longmire with shorter trail length to camp to "save ourselves" for the climb the next day. It was an abnormally warm Oct weekend. The trail in is the Wonderland Trail. Some route finding over Kautz Creek -- nothing crazy. For the Pyramid Peak hike/climb. The trail is only maintained to Mirror Lakes. However two foot bridges are collapsing but are passable. Once you pass the "end of maintain trail" sign it get's more rugged. The trail is easy to follow but has rough spots especially once you pass the meadow with Fishers Hornpipe creek. The trail heads up to the south side with large steps -- some "scrambles". You get to a shoulder with a look down on a water fall (in the valley below). We dropped our packs here (hung them). Made the final push to the peak -- there really is no trail. From IHHG out to Kautz Creek TH -- It's not the Wonderland Trail. It is downhill steep and seems relentless and rough in places. Nothing else to really say -- it was in the trees and pretty boring.

There was fresh snow on the trail today (between 2.5 and 4 inches) which made for a beautiful hike. The trail was easy to see. We made it about 3.5 miles before turning back. Enjoy
