Back side single track still has a lot of ice. Wish the trail was longer. We ended up hiking up again.

Beautiful trail! We only went up the front and came back the same way because the back half seemed icy and slippery. but it was so worth it, there are beautiful views throughout the whole thing. A little icy and muddy on the front half we went on, but not bad and easily avoided.

HikingIcyMuddy

Great short hike for an amazing view of the Palouse. There is a place to sit and enjoy the vista 1/2 a mile up but there is a picnic table with a much better view of the surrounding area if you choose to go all the way to the top. Most of the snow has melted on the pine ridge trail going up so it is very muddy right now. On the back ridge trail going down, there is still a lot of hard packed icy snow due to the shade, very slippery so I wouldn't attempt in tennis shoes.

Great trail with some altitude gain! Saw a moose! Great that you can bring your dogs! On the way up the trails was not too bad. Muddy and some snow in areas but the trail down was ice and slick mud! Be careful but a beautiful trail!

Icy and slushy but still doable with just hiking boots. Nice way to spend a few hours!

HikingSnow

Hiked the Pine Ridge Loop Jan 1st 2021. There had been about 8 inches of snow recently but trail was pretty well packed down from recent hikers. 38 degrees so snow was slightly slushy. Icy in a few spots, ice cleats would have been helpful but weren’t necessary and certainly not enough snow to warrant snowshoes. Saw plenty of deer tracks on one deer laying on a hillside. Amazing panoramic views from the top. Going clockwise is less steep going uphill and more steep going downhill, but I think counterclockwise would allow you to see the open view a little more easily.

HikingGreat!

This is a fantastic trail. Well marked and a good mix of up and down with varied terrain. The mileage is closer to 3.5 if you to the Pine Ridge Loop. There is a Summit Spur at the top which I did not do because it was socked in. My guess is that will add an additional 1/2 - 1 mile.

The views were great. Although on certain areas, the trails were not well marked. We reached the part that said it was a primitive and difficult trail but dogs were not allowed. I wish that they would state that at the beginning of the hike so people know that they could only go to a certain point with their dogs.

We really liked the trail, but could only do the half-loop because we had a dog. Sign said no dogs and difficult trail ahead a few hundred yards past the trail junction, so we had to double back some.

HikingGreat!

If your knees hurt going down steep portions of trails, for the ridge trail go right on the loop. The backside of the loop (right) is steeper than the wider portion.
