parked at the bottom of the hill at hamma hamma river and hiked the two miles plus to the trail Head. Then I hiked the trail up the ridge to the top and some. got views of several peaks on all sides. was even able to see Lena lake from the ridge trail. just look to the North up at the top. we love this trail. tough hike, steep, watch out for dead trees on the trail, waiting to fall. . we turned around on the top of the ridge, not sure how far the trail extends to. but we ran out of water. probably hiked 8 miles out and back.

Road to the TH was an adventure in itself, it does not appear to have been maintained in quite awhile. The trail goes into a climb upward from the beginning and there is few places that level out for you to get a break. Trail is narrow and the loose rocks make climbing upward a little more difficult. Spectacular views to the east and if it is clear you can see to Seattle. Coming down you do quite a bit of sliding on the loose silt and rocks. Wear good shoes with traction. Overall, it was a good workout and worth lunch at the top overlooking the other peaks and the valley below.

Road is rough even to the Elk Lake TH and there is a blowdown over the road that our Honda Pilot just squeezed under. Parked at the Elk Lake TH and hiked up the road to the Jefferson Ridge TH. The trail goes up and up through a beautiful forest. Second part of trail goes through second growth forest with more views out to the east. Had to turn around at about 2600 feet because of deep snow.

Don't pay attention to my map drawing. The trail is an uphill 1500+ ft ( 1.6 mile to the top, 3.2 total) climb through forest. No real photo ops , but deer are plenty. The trail is well defined, but little sign of any usage. It is a good trail for keeping in shape. It ends when it reconnects to FS 2421. The TH is at 47.58322, -123.312116.
Directions are from US 101N, go west on FS 25 (N Hamma Hamma Rd)/ at 6.5 miles go left on FS 2480, cross the Hamma Hamma River/ about .2 miles go right on FS 2421. This road is rocky, steep and rough. When you get to Elk Lake TH # 805, keep going until you get to the TH on the right (past this point the road is severely washed out. There is limited parking just before the TH.
