SnowshoeingGreat!Snow

Heather Meadows parking area fills up fast so you'll want to get there early, especially on a weekend. Lots of snowboarders and skiers there as well so watch that you stay on the right trails! We snowshoed this trail on an amazingly clear day and were rewarded with gorgeous views of Shuksan and Baker. Poles are recommended as parts of the trail are steep, especially when going down. The trail was packed but there was a ton of fresh powder if you prefer that. Definitely coming back to this area...such phenomenal mountain views!

Went snowshoeing with my 9 year old on Dec 12. Heather Meadows parking lot was packed by the time we got there at around 10:30. There's a parking assistant who directed where to park and we grabbed one of the few remaining spots left. Started the trip from the left side of the bathroom. Snow condition was a mix of packed and soft snow. Packed at the beginning and soft towards the top but we used our snowshoes the entire time. The weather was gorgeous and it was a perfect bluebird day. We tried to stay off the skin tracks and outside of the barrier for the skiers lane although it could be confusing at times. After we passed Heather Meadows Visitor Center, the trail was rather steep but it was doable for my 9 year old. If we started earlier, we might continue our trip to Huntoon Point, but we decided to end our trip at Artist point and went back down.

The conditions weren't that great today especially if you wear glasses like me. But I'm definitely going to come back and try again to make it all the way. Nice to get out anyway.

Snowshoeing

Classic snowshoe route near Mt Baker! It’s my first time snowshoeing, following others steps and made it to the top (Artist Point) highly recommended to bring enough snacks and water.

What an absolutely stunning day to snowshoe. The snow is in amazing condition. The trail was very busy; most people had masks. Lots of dogs, and unfortunately some dog owners didn't pick up after their pets. Remember to stay close to the ski area to go up. Saw a couple trying to go up without snowshoes - this is not really doable anymore. Also: I'd not recommend following the "road" to get to Artist point, particularly depending on the avalanche danger.

Lots of trails, it can be hard to find the best way but almost all of them get you to the top. You can follow along the road or up and over the hill at one point. The road will take longer but it's flatter. The hill up and over is short and steep. Either way you choose they join back together near the bathroom/parking lot of Artist Point. The bathrooms at the top are buried. There is a pit toilet at the trailhead.

This is a super easy trail, not sure why it’s rated as moderate. But super pretty views. Very crowded today (a Sunday). So definitely go during the week if you want less “tourists”. Lots of other really great trails in the area that are more challenging, and less crowded.

Great meadow views on the Wild Goose trail which goes from Heather Meadows parking lot to Artist Point parking lot. Rigorous uphill hike. We continued to Huntoon point from Artist point through the Artist Ridge trail and it made this whole hike so much better. Arrived at 9AM on a Sunday and parking lot was half full.

Started at Austin Pass picnic area and hiked up to Artists Point. You can follow the trail or the road. There are still areas covered in snow. We used mini spikes for a few spots, but they weren’t necessary. The views at the top are fantastic.
