Washington State Tourism, P.O. Box 42500 , Olympia, WA, 98504-2500, Phone: 360-586-2088, tobyg@tourism.wa.gov

From highway 410 S. toward Mt. Rainier take FS 70 to the junction with the Naches trail. There is a small road that heads up to Government meadow, but is difficult for all but the sturdiest 4wd vehicles. Walk the 7/10th's of a mile up the road to Government meadow, then head south on the PCT.

Road up is not much a problem, a few potholes but manageable. The hike is nice but I wasn’t able to get to Arch Rock.

SB PCT was fine, but soon entered remnants from the Norse Peak Fire. Fresh water was flowing from the creek fed by Arch Spring. My Garmin map shows that a shelter existed near Arch Rock, but most likely destroyed by the fire. Took Arch Rock trail down the valley NB, but the trail disappears multiple times. The path has a few markings of blue ribbons tied to trees and a couple cairns as well. This path is best suited for gps aid and is quite steep with some rocky trail.

Lots of snow on the trail, no chance to keep on the trail when in the trees. GPS needed. Great hike.

This is a pretty little section of the WA portion of the Pacific Crest trail suitable for a day hike. Starting from Government Meadow, head south through heavy forest with periodic views of the surrounding peaks. We stopped at Arch rock for lunch with terrific views of Raven's roost across the valley and the Stuart range and Mt. Daniel to the north.
