We did an 9 mile round trip hike with an early downhill followed by a persistent but not overly difficult uphill and then by about mile 3.5 the trail leveled off. At about 3.5 to 3.7 miles there were some beautiful views of mountains across the river. We followed the river and a stream for most of the hike and crossed the Dungeness river and crossed gold creek and finally another stream which had a much dicier log crossing . The trail was single file but in excellent condition. The trail is on the easy side of moderate. We saw no other people on the trail. Hiking pole helpful but didn’t need shoe spikes.

Hiked this trail yesterday for 3 miles (6 RT) and it was a workout. Primarily uphill going in but very well maintained trail. Spotted some cougar scat on trail at appx 2.5 miles in, so there is that. Also ran into 2 dirt bikers tearing up the trail on the way down. Regardless, we enjoyed the hike and will do it again....

A good hike. The walking was easy due to the well maintained trail. A few muddy spots and three bridges over creeks. a couple of views up where I turned around.

Hiked it today (Labor Day) and had the trail to myself. No issues with stream crossings...both had log bridges in order. Pretty steep the first couple miles. No bugs. Not rated higher because there was no payoff at the end. 6.5ish miles uphill and I arrived at the parking lot for Tubal Cain TH. For a similar length and difficulty hike with a nice view at the top, try the 10-mile Upper Big Quilcene Trail.

Beautiful trail! We only did about 3 miles (6 total) but it was a great trail. Crossing the creek was easy with the bridge, and while it was steep in the beginning, we really enjoyed the trail conditions overall

So beautiful. Great for taking pictures. Crossing Gold Creek was a little dicey with rope and rocks.
