Fishtrap Lake Overlook is a 3.3 mile lightly trafficked out and back trail located near Sprague, Washington that features a lake and is good for all skill levels. The trail is primarily used for hiking and walking. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash.
Our family is calling this the ‘Cow Pie Hike” because there were a lot of them :). This is a beautiful trail with platinum colored grasses, tall majestic pines, stark burnt forests, aspen trees and a bald eagle. While there were other cars at the trailhead, we were completely alone the entire hike.
We connected the outer perimeter of the North and South Loop Trails. Ticks are out. Limited cover for a large portion of the trail so prep for sun exposure. Trail was pretty easy walking with little elevation gain/loss.
Nice little out and back walk on BLM land. There’s very little shade most of the way so I would not want to do this in the middle of summer. Once you get to the end there’s an idyllic little spot on the lake. It’s quiet and peaceful with hardly anyone around. It does appear that the area is popular with horseback riders. On the next occasion, if I have more time (and no little ones with me), I will do the loop instead as that would probably be better.
