Did my first hike of this trail this weekend. Easy to access. need a discovery pass to park. But it was very nice. Wild Salmonberries on the path, and tons of little side areas and alternate routes to explore! When you get to the peak, it is serene and clear. Nothing too crazy or strenuous either.

Quick, easy hike that is fun to run! Muddy in a few spots but overall dry. Came during sunset and got a beautiful view on one side and Mt Rainier on the other. Many intersecting trails and lots of mosquitoes.

short. kid friendly. signage sucks but as long as you move uphill it's easy to find the peak. top view is great. we brought a few hammocks to use at the top and found ample places to hang them. trail is well manicured and maintained. this will be in our regular list.

The trail itself is fun to run and is good for a shorter loop. There is the usual amount of rocks and roots but nothing excessive that will slow you down until you get close to the top. The elevation gain is pretty minimal and the majority of it occurs at the very end of the trail when approaching the summit. But you get a great view of Rainer on a clear day!

However, there are a few downsides. While there are signs the trails zig zag and run into each other in confusing ways that are not well-marked. I started going the wrong way several times before doubling back. There is also a lake nearby with pretty still water and the mosquitoes were out in force, which made the view at the top a shorter stay than preferred. Finally while most of the trail was dry a few parts were pretty muddy and we did not get much rain that day.

Very easy “hike” on well kept trails. Lots and lots of intersections that we kept going the wrong way on, but we ran into a nice hiker who showed us how to get up to the viewpoint... this was the only part of the walk that actually felt left like a hike. We were there on a cloudy day, so didn’t get to see Mt Rainier... will def go back on a day with better visibility.

Great easy hike that’s fun and gives a neat view at the top. Our toddler walked most of it. A little muddy in spots but not bad.

Such an underrated hike with a huge payoff at the top. Breathtaking views of Mt Rainer.

Fun hike. We took the pup out for a walk. Tried to catch Rainier before the sun set, but she was covered with clouds by the time we got up there. Trail was in good shape even with all the rain. Was a nice day to get outside.

Great short hike with a view of Rainier at the top. Well maintained year round and good spot for some lunch on a sunny winter day

Nice little hike if you live in the Kent/Renton area. Nice 360 degree view at the top of Mr. Rainier and Desire Lake. It was an hour round trip for me and my kids and that included 15 minutes of hanging out at the top.

Not much to see at the top of Cedar Mountain, but the climb to the top is good cardio.

I went on a Sunday afternoon in fall and it was beautiful and quiet. Saw maybe five people the two hours I was there!

There is a lovely view of Mount Rainier in the distance with a forested foreground from the top of Echo Mountain

It's a pleasant getaway and conveniently close to town. There are a number of geocaches in the park and the top of Echo Mountain has some flat rocks to sit and relax on. The view today was obscured by the smoke from the BC fires so I am unsure if there is a rewarding view. I enjoyed myself just the same.

New Shady Lake Trail (branch) extends newly named "3 Lakes Loop Trail". The new 1/2 mile trail is now mostly gravel and includes 3 wood bridges. The Shady Lake Trail adds another entrance to the Spring Lake - Lake Desire County Park, and the Trail system which includes the Echo Mountain Trail.

7/1/2017 (Saturday) - Maps are available at the main parking lot or the part's gate. The park is called "Spring Lake / Lake Desire Park", managed by King County. Being different from AllTrails' map, "Otter Lake" is now called "Spring Lake", and "Cedar Mountain" is now called "Echo Peak" by the park of King County. Trails are numerous, though short, and mostly well-maintained, with new path signs, and are not displayed by AllTrails' map (but all displayed correctly on OCM). The part is very lightly used, and the main parking lot's capacity is very limited, maybe, 4-6 cars at most. The woods in this part are pleasant, but the path leading to Lake Desire ends at a dirty and narrow lakeside opening, which is the biggest downside. In clear days, one should be able to see Mt Rainier at the top of Echo Peak, but we can't see anything in the cloudy day.

fun hike, lots of trails, and it's really close by. I did find something disturbing off one of the trails. an old ammo box buried under a fallen log. inside was some army men, a few random toys, and a notebook with the hand writing of an adult dated 2010. very creepy for sure

easy to moderate trail with several options!

The trail was enjoyable and at the end of the trail you get to the shore of the lake blocked off by a gigantic tree and that's the end ..the view is spectacular but the downside is that not a lot of room there so if more than 2 people would feel crowded; it's just a small opening in the woods to see the lake.

This trail was alright. The forestry was nice, but there weren't many scenic areas on the hike. I wasn't able to find the overlook at the top of trail either. I also tried to follow one of the trials to the lake but it ended up leading to a water tower. You could see the lake peaking through the trees, but no great views. If you really want to see it go to the water access at the trailhead.

Excellent first hike! Quick trip to good enough of a view. 10yo son & I took about a half hour to make it up.
