A scenic hike to a pair of beautiful lakes on the Sawtooth Ridge east of Lake Chelan. The trail climbs through a valley on the way to Horeshead Pass. At 5.5 miles is an overlook looking down on Lower Eagle Lake. Just past the overlook is a junction in the trail. Continue another mile down to Lower Eagle or .5 miles to the right to Upper Eagle Lake. October offers excellent views of golden larch trees surrounding the lakes and nearby peaks. The trail is shared by hikers, horses, and motorcycles.

Amazing hike! Larches were just starting to pop. Lots of snow after about mile 2. Upper eagle is all snow, anywhere from 6”-1.5’. Still good to backpack if you pack warm, slept in a hammock with underquilt and inflatable sleeping pad and was nice and toasty. 10/10 on beauty and solitude. Larches are breathtaking this time of year!

Long gradual climb that never felt steep. About 6 miles to Upper Eagle Lake and another mile to head down to the lower lake. Golden larches this time of year made for some great scenery.
