An off line map is recommended to get oriented as several users have reported that this trail is not well marked and/or that there may be poor cell reception in this area. Dirty Harry's Balcony via Little Balcony is an out and back trail located near North Bend, Washington that features awe inspiring views from two rock outcroppings (balconies) and is rated as moderate. This is the relatively "Easy" route to Dirty Harry's Balcony. This route is about the same length, but has much less elevation gain that the Birdhouse route. Trail starts from the Ira Spring Trailhead, which is about 4 miles up a mostly gravel road from Exit 45 off I-90. NW Forest Pass required. Please note: off line map is recommended to get oriented as several users have reported that this trail is not well marked and/or that there may be poor cell reception in this area. The trail climbs steadily at a moderate slope through beautiful forest to the junction where the trail to Putrid Pete's Peak forks off to the right. From there the trail continues traverse through forest to a short side trail that come out on Little Balcony. The views from Little Balcony are breathtaking and are well worth the effort. Returning to the main trail and progressing on from Little Balcony the trail crosses a expansive rock field. Plan to spend a few fun minutes stacking rocks. Just beyond the rock field there is a small stream crossing with somewhat steep scrambles on both sides. The west side has hand rails to help. A little further and the trail meets the more developed trail coming up from the Dirty Harry's Balcony Trailhead. A short distance more with a short scramble up you arrive on Dirty Harry's Balcony.

Great day, great hike. Only a couple groups well-dispersed at the balcony and literally nobody on the entire trail the way there. Awesome first hike of the season, getting warmed up.

Couldn’t pass on the main road 3.6 miles from the trail head. Had to find somewhere else to go

the trails in good shape, some people put on their spikes towards the end, since there was a little snow at the top... for me easily manageable without.. the balcony at the top was super crowded 25 + people... stopped at the 1st balcony coming down, way better View, and not much lower in elevation.... and there was only six of us down there...

Snowcapped mountains, a variety of cliff views and a lack of un-masked minions made this a memorable hike. Micro spikes were necessary about half a mile in and I had trekking poles for extra guidance on the way down. There were a few people who had their dogs off-leash, including a pit which was a bit skittish but all went well. About a dozen other hikers were out there as well and made the trail feel all the more sparse. Everyone present abided by the mask mandate but it helped to walk the trails on a weekday.

HikingGreat!

1/23/21- Arrived at the TH at around 8:30am, parking lot was already full, but plenty of parking available close by on the road. Bathroom is open, and maintained. We hiked up to the balcony first which was a fairly easy hike. As others have mentioned, you do get a bit of highway noise, but just enjoy the nature, and the beauty of the hike and you’ll tune it out. There are a few false balcony’s along the way that make great resting spots/photo ops. The balcony was surprisingly not as crowded as we’d thought it would be for as many cars that were in the lot. Spent a good amount of time there taking photos, resting, having a bit to eat. Then we continued on up a portion Peak Trail to the museum. Unfortunately, we overshot the very obscure “trailhead” by about 1/2 mile. Once we hit snow, we realized our mistake and had to backtrack. For the record, the trail to the museum is tucked up into the woods on the right side immediately before the first of 2 stream crossings. There is also a large downed tree on the left side of the main trail. Once you start to head up to the museum, look for orange/yellow ties, and stacked rocks to lead you up to an old GMC logging truck. Happy hiking! Enjoy :)

Nice trail with a few fun scrambly sections. Pretty view at the top. I-90 noise and constant (luckily distant) gun shots ruined the peaceful vibe. I enjoyed the hike, but I think there are prettier/ more peaceful options in the area.

At the junction with from the Ira spring trail, this trail was not well marked. It was blocked by a log. An experienced hiker may miss this as it looks like you are being told not to follow this trail (probably due to confused Ira Springs hikers). The trail it’s self was not very well maintained at points and had some nearly impassable sections. The trail is quite steep and maintains its steepness nearly to little balcony. The pathway to the little balcony was hard to find. We didn’t make it to Dirty Harrys balcony as we had started late and didn’t want to hike down the steep trail after dark. The view from little balcony was nice but you could see/hear the freeway. The trailhead is very busy for the ira springs trail but the little balcony trail is very empty, we only passed one group of hikers. All around, for an experienced hiker looking for a quick but not so easy jaunt, this trail is not bad. Just don’t expect any breath taking views.

Great trail! Moderate incline to start, some steep bits but nothing too difficult. Had a blast.

HikingGreat!

Trail was beautiful! This is such a fantastic hike :) The one thing Ill say is that I went in late afternoon on Sat and hardly anyone was there which normally is great but on trail I became aware of a man at a bend in the trail who was around a corner with a rock that you wouldn’t normally see. He did not announce himself or offer any greeting and got quiet when it was clear I became aware of someone there. He was setting up a tent (camping is not allowed there) in this hidden area behind a rock and seemed like pretty sketchy so I backtracked as quickly as I could and when got down to parking lot there were no other cars there. Given how many stories are being reported lately wanted to post this here

Parking lot was pretty full at 9 AM, but still room. Trail itself was empty with very few other folks. Little balcony was great, make sure you don't miss it.

Nice hike with low traffic, some steep/narrow sections, mostly on 2nd half. On a late August Wednesday starting at 11am, we saw no one once we got off the short stretch of Ira Spring trail. We even had Dirty Harry's Balcony to ourselves, although we preferred Little Balcony (higher, some shade, less I-90 view). Downside was that could never escape sound of I-90 and gunfire (shooting range?). Mostly shady, so very comfortable on warm day.

Great trail and beautiful views. Parking was busy but no one was on the trail. It seems like everyone went to the springs rather than Dirty Harry’s Balcony. I would say it was an easy to moderate trail.

Not crowded once we got out of the Ira Springs parking lot. Great way to get to Dirty Harrys Balcony without running into a lot of other people. Little Balcony was great as well and on the way to Harrys.

Holy potholes! Be very careful driving in, the potholes are numerous and very deep. Got to the trail around noon and had to park pretty far down the road. Came across quite a few people in the initial section, but once we turned onto the actual trail we were pretty secluded - only saw a handful while we were actually hiking. The balcony had probably 10 people sitting around, but everyone adhered to social distancing. The views were beautiful and the shade along the trail was welcome on this warm day!

Really nice hike, worked my legs out for sure. Just about everyone was contentious and brought masks with them, and those that hadn't faced away from our group. The view at the Balcony is fairly similar to views lower down, but it's also not that much further and is worth the satisfaction of actually completing what you came out to do. Lots of different plantlife too, very fascinating to look at!

This is not a commercial trail which makes this a must try for nature lovers. There were not at all many people at all on this trail and its a true gateway into the nature. After reaching the parking lot at Ira springs trail head, walk for around 0.3 miles and you see a offshoot to this trail that actually blends into the forest. I have uploaded a picture of it with an arrow mark pointing towards the trail. I would definitely recommend downloading an offline map or if your phone has good signal reception, then you can follow map on all trails as its very easy to miss the actual trail (you might need it at few places along the trail too). You can first reach little balcony and from little balcony its around 0.5-08 mile to Dirty Harry Balcony .This specific route is really steep at places and recommend good boots and polls for beginners. You will also cross a valley of rocks that makes this trail more enjoyable. Both the vista points are really good and a good reward for the hike.

Narrow in some places but navigable. Our dogs (100+ lbs) had trouble on some of the waterfall passes and steep step climbs, but it wasn’t too bad overall. Amazing views and very little crowds. The parking lot also serves a much busier trail, so it was very, very packed, but we only saw 4 other groups once we hit this trail. It’s a little easy to miss the offshoot as it’s a small, narrow trail off of a big trail.

Isolated trail with very few people in it on a busy day. Trail is fairly primitive but with two really nice view points and some small streams. Enjoyed it with the family. Kids 9-17.
