Pretty much a gravel road for 5ish miles with some pretty river gorges and one super shallow water crossing. After that we hit snow and the person with me wanted to turn around although I would have kept going. Great social distance hike though as no one around.

As people mentioned the road is gone about 2 miles in from mountain loop highway. I would rate this as an easy walk, you are on a road, you do have to cross a couple of washouts. Hard pack snow this morning.

Deer creek road is closed about two miles in. You can drive to where it is closed, park, then walk from there. Or you can just park at the bottom and walk the whole way. It's an easy - moderate hike. Decently groomed gravel road with a few wash outs. It is a slight incline on the way up, but pretty mild. Also, there was a decent amount of water on the road, so bring waterproof shoes or practice jumping across rocks. I hiked to Kelcema lake, about 9 miles RT.

We wanted to hike to Kelcema lake vis this road a few weeks ago.. we were only about to get about a mile or two up the road to park though. We brought our snowshoes and had a nice mostly flat hike up the road. Unfortunately I think we turned around about a mile from the Lake itself but the walk was gorgeous. We were the only ones there and our dogs had a blast!
