Lake Vicente is stunningly beautiful! I stayed there for one night and had the whole place to myself. The PCT was pretty busy, but the trail to Vicente was totally empty. It is a long and challenging hike to get there, which is probably the only reason why. There’s really only one campsite in the lake basin. It’s located on the opposite side of the stream outlet (so, turn right when you arrive at the lake, then cross the outlet to get to the campsite). Be aware that if you are carrying a full pack, there is a short scramble at the very end of the trail to Lake Vicente. You have to climb up a head wall with some loose rocks and talus. It’s a bit sketchy, but worth it!

From the trail head its 2 miles up moderate switchbacks through old growth forest before you reach the first smaller lake. The weight of your pack will determine how difficult this section is. This is a good spot to have a quick snack and rehydrate. 3 to 4 miles further along the trail you will pass several smaller ponds and the amount of shade is reduced as you are now out of the forest and at higher elevations. You have the option to go to Peggys Pond as one junction. Once over the ridge you will see Deep Lake in sight approximately 2 miles down. The decent happens quicker with the prize in site. Once at the lake there are several camps on the west side of lake as well as a few spots on the east side of lake. The lake was cool, but very refreshing after the long hike. Many trout were seen swimming in the crystal clear waters with Cathedral Rock and Mt. Daniel as the backdrop to this amazing lake. Would do it again.
