The very beginning of this trail is the steepest! A nice workout for the first half mile or so and then it becomes more moderate. You'll pass a building on the left hand side where you can purchase a Discover Pass if you need one - $10/day or $30/year. The trail head is just a couple minutes past that center. There is a bathroom at the trail head. There was no signal for a while so if you're following the All Trails map, best to download before hand. There were a few times we checked to make sure we chose the right path but for the most part the trails are clearly marked. We came across 3 or 4 portapotties along the hike - mostly in the first 4 miles or so. We went to Mt. Kit Carson first and then Day Mountain. We preferred the view at Kit Carson a little better but the peak at Day Mountain was quieter and more peaceful. We had a nice picnic there and found a nice flat rock to sit. One part of the trail was a wide dirt road but the rest was quite lush and fun to walk. There's also a beautiful meadow. Really nice choice for a day hike - came out to about 12 miles.
