This hike only gets a five star rating because of the snow covered larches. What an incredible setting for the yellow trees blanketed by the white snow. The trail is gradual and we made the pass with the snow covered trail in two hours. This also works as one way hike to the Cutthroat Pass TH as this one start from Rainy Pass. Spikes werent needed but could have been used as the trail was snow covered about half the way. It was soft enough that it wasnt slippery yet.
