Road to the trail-head was snow free. Snow on trail after first 1/2 mile all the way to the lakes. I made it with hiking shoes and poles but a lot of post-holing. 2 to 3 ft deep at the lower lake which was already frozen over. I tried to get to the upper lake but couldn't find a good route - too much snow. Slippery on the way down as temperature started to rise. Larches will probably be in prime in another week.

Amazing hike! My brothers and I set out for a different lake, ended up seeing the sign while we were hiking up and decided to switch trails. From trail head to top of Lake was 4.5 miles, sign was about a mile up. It took us about 2 hours to get up and about a hour down. Streams flowed well and lots of water for dogs. Still some snow. Gorgeous scenery and hike!
