Getting There

The Chirico Trail is a lovely spot conveniently located just off I-90 in Issaquah. After about 700 feet elevation, the noise from any roads nearly disappears and nothing but forest remains. The south launch area allows the users to have lovely valley views while looking out over the top of the nudist colony. The north launch area of Poo-Poo Point allows the user to have lovely views of the Lake Sammamish and Issaquah. This is a popular site for hiking, paragliding and hang gliding. This is the shorter route to Poo Poo Point, beginning at the paragliding landing field rather than the high school several miles to the north.

No permits needed, parking is free. (although scarce on weekends, when the trail and paragliding field get heavy use) Street parking is prohibited. Portable toilets and a picnic table in the parking lot.

Washington State Department of Natural Resources South Puget Sound Region Tel: 360.825.1631

Standard day-hiking gear is utilized and what is required will depend upon the day. In winter, the trail can be wet from rain or slippery with ice, depending on the weather. In summer, the trail is used more frequently and ofter users are found hiking up wearing shorts and t-shirts. Again, watch out of the pilots about to land as one enters the landing zone (LZ) at beginning and conclusion of the trail.

From Seattle, east on I-90 to exit 17, Front Street. Turn right off the freeway and travel 2.8 miles to the gravel parking area on the left. The trailhead is across the field.

Great trail - a serious hike! Longer than 3.4 miles. Logged closer to 5 miles on my Fitbit. First half of the trial is incredibly rocky and then a very dry dirt/root path. The views at the top are incredible. Busy trail - even for a Monday but most people were very good about mask usage.

Short and easy drive from Seattle. Quick but strenuous hike to the top. At the summit, there were lots of paragliders. While we were there, one company was offering to take people paragliding from the top - it was $195 per person. Looked fun if you are spontaneous.

The trail is mostly hard dirt and rock which makes it easy to go up and down. Trails are well maintained. Nice quick morning hike!

My maiden Issaquah voyage. It’s great and just hard enough for a developing novice like me. Just before the point is a clearing where you can see Mt. Rainer. Keep going to the point and you can have your lunch while you watch the hang gliders launch a few feet away. All of this while taking in an awesome view of the Sammamish lake valley. Good stuff!

Traffic was very heavy and most people had little care for masks, distance, or yielding to uphill traffic. I'll be coming back soon with a trash bag to clean the trail. Lots of trash for the normal state of this beautiful trail.

Awesome trail that you can easily do even after work! I loved how the forest/terrain changes as you go along. Heavy traffic for sure, most people did mask. Took about 3 hours roundtrip while walking at a slow pace with some breaks along the way. Highlights: having a picnic at Poo Poo point and watching the paragliders!
