Tips

Hike to an old lighthouse as well as a really nice Lewis & Clark Interpretive center. With beautiful views of the cape. Climb to the oldest operating lighthouse on the West Coast, explore bunkers of an old military fort, wander through coastal forests, and take in spectacular vistas, including breathtaking ocean views. The park has old-growth forest, lakes, freshwater and saltwater marshes, streams, ocean tidelands, and lots of watchable wildlife. Visit the Lewis & Clark Interpretive Center and swim at Waikiki Beach, the only swim-safe beach on the Peninsula.

From Seattle: Take I-5 south to Olympia, SR 8 west to Montesano. From there, take U.S. Hwy. 101 south to Long Beach Peninsula. From Portland: Take I-5 north to Longview, then SR 4 west to U.S. Hwy. 101. Then drive south to Long Beach Peninsula. Follow signs to Ilwaco and the park.

We went on a very wet weekend in late January and it was beautiful. Definitely worth the walk to see the lighthouse and the views of the Columbia river Bar. Make sure to go see the waves smashing against the rocks from Waikiki beach as well.

Lived up to its name. The best part of the trail dead mans cove is closed. It’s a short easy walk and not really worth a drive to it. Pretty views but the lighthouse is nothing special.

The trail is pretty quick & easy. We had zero issues getting to Deadman’s Cove - there were NO signs anywhere saying you couldn’t be there so I’m not quite sure why some of the reviews say you’ll be fined for being down there. Either way, gorgeous views.

*Discovery Pass required* •Deadman’s Cove - closed (US gov property and trespassers will be charged• The north loop has some erosion to the section that goes to a lookout, signs are posted about hazardous trail conditions, with a cliff on one side and soft dirt being only held together with tree roots. Other wise the trail is a thin pathway with a semi-steep start (100ft gain). The south section is best started from the parking lot for the interpretive center. The old Fort can be walked through with some history boards posted throughout. This trail is dirt pathway and strolls down toward the water. It transitions to pavement at the back gate of the US Coast Guard area and Deadman’s Cove. Deadman’s Cove is now US Gov. property and closed off to public. A few guards were there to monitor the area and detain/ arrest/ collect those who jumped the barriers to attempt to go on the beach. The trail ends at the USCG lighthouse, which is a post position and staffed. GREAT view point on a clear day of Oregon (to the South East), Deadman’s Cove (just below and to the north), Waikiki Beach (North West), and the Jetty.

Steep in some spots but very easy. I took my 8 year old with me and we had a blast.

this was an absolutely amazing hike. however I would not classify this as "easy". there are several steeper inclines and times where the path was narrow ( literally putting one foot in front of another). it was worth it, just be prepared and wear proper shoes. we saw a few folks with flip flops on.

Short and easy but great scenery. Misty fog blanketed the cape and the salmon berries were abundant.

Dry ground and easy to manage hike in sneakers. A beautiful cove, nice lighthouse, two bald eagles (one as close as 12’!), cool historical architecture all in an hour to hour and half. Would recommend! (Need discovery pass or purchase one in lot.)

I loved this area- we went down to the beach and let our pup play! Such a fun place and lots of different trails to choose from. Trails were clear, I let my dog off leash and no one had an issue with it. She got to run and jump in the water! We had a great day :)
