Great time for 'training' for a longer backpack hike with the kids (5, 7, & 9). We camped at the West camp sites. Don't stay at the north sites unless you're usually a car camper. 1.5 miles to the West site. Take Argosy cruise over with the staff in the early morning, $40 a person. Saw bald eagles, porpoise, seals, etc. Beautiful trees and flowers, great weather, and perfect mix of beach and woods. Couldn't have had a better hike this weekend. WARNING: Stinging Nettles along the trail! Don't touch anything along the way!

One of the best state parks: an entire island devoted to forest trails, campsites, marina, mooring balls, and a Native American cultural facility.

This island is by boat only .... There are several trails that lead to campgrounds. Amazing views of Rainier and the sound. Space needle at night looks terrific across the water. Very nice for kids.
