We (the grandparents) did this trail starting at the boat launch and ending up just outside the upper gate with a 7 and 9 yr old. Rubber boots were a must! The trees grow in such unusual shapes. Very pretty hike. Not stroller friendly.

Great hike in the trees. Trail A is a little overgrown but not impassable. Some muddy spots that are easily traversed. Did another hike trail C I think. Very nice, wide and well maintained.

Lakeside trail (Trail A on local map). Bring your machete. At least a third of the trail is boggy, muddy, and overgrown with ferns and sticker bushes. Foliage is so thick that views of the lake are limited. Sections in the trees are at least decent trail but again limited views.

I was planning on doing this hike, but checked with the WA State Parks & Rec folks. Right now the Lake is CLOSED for any water activities due to an algae bloom (http://www.jeffersoncountypublichealth.org/index.php?lake-water-quality) which will KILL your dog and harm people if the water's ingested. It's a beautiful area, though. Please check the parks & rec site before visiting.
