HikingGreat!

Short hike with a bit of a leg workout on the incline up to the butte. But spectacular views are your payoff! We hiked today 10/3, and had nothing but 360 views and clear skies. We views of both Mount Baker & Mount Shuksan. After spending a bit of time taking in the views, we headed to Anderson Lake. It was just ok. Skip this and head straight to Watson Lakes........AMAZING!

A spectacular hike, the view from the top is amazing, although the forest fire smoke was coming in obscuring the top of Baker. To get to the trail head, be sure to head to Baker Dam, and then continue gravel road for almost 1 hr. and yes, there are some signs. Don't use your gps....it was completely wrong. Highly recommend this hike.

Beautiful conditions! Trail was perfect! Minimal bugs! I originally planned on doing Anderson and Watson Lakes but had to go up to the butte instead! Amazing views of Baker!

HikingGreat!

Great hike but you gotta look for the trail head post for Anderson Butte. Chatted with 2 separate hiking parties who both missed it and ended up at the lakes. Lakes are beautiful too but the view from the Butte is worth the steep climb to the top.

Road is clear albeit full of pot holes. Hike to the Butte has some passable snow fields. No views today but with a pleasant fog drifting through giving everything a quiet peacefulness.

Scenic drivingBlowdownSnow

As of 6/19/20 the road is blocked by a large snow patch about 2 miles before the official trailhead (48.686215°, -121.634808°). Looks like a few people have attempted to get through it, got stuck, and backed out. Uploaded photo to Alltrails of current conditions. If you want to start hiking from here, add 4 miles distance to your round trip hike. Other than that, the road is in pretty good shape for most of the way. You will need high clearance for the occasional obstacle, and there is one sketchy blowdown that's been sawed through to allow cars to pass (very narrow, muddy). Views were still nice from the road cuts, walked a short ways up to have lunch before heading back. Would love to come back once the snow melts.

HikingSnow

Nov 11, 2019: Road is snow free and in great shape. It's easily passable by all vehicles. Trail is overall pretty straightforward, it's short and steep with a great 270° payoff. Only a couple muddy spots, blowdowns, one foot bridge collapsed, and a little bit of ice. No snow until about 5,000ft but we never bothered putting our microspikes on as they weren't needed.

A short well maintained side trail from the main Watson / Anderson Lakes trail. There were a few snow patches at the top but not bad and it wasn't super steep. Views of Baker, Shuksan, Blum, Hagan, Bacon and other peaks. If you are just day-hiking I recommend squeezing in both Watson Lakes and this side trip since they are both fairly short. After crossing the Baker Lake dam the dirt road to the trail-head was in good condition.
