Road closed at entrance. Quiet, beautiful. Icy waterfalls over basalt cliffs.

11/26/19 Nice trail. Most of the time you are following an abandoned dirt road. Beautiful lakes at the end. I can see why this is such a popular backpacking destination, but the day we went we didn’t see anybody all day. No rattles or ticks this time.

Good easy walk. Not bad for a beginner who is interested in his or her first overnighter. id imagine the sunrise and sunsets are worth hanging around for.

Hiked Dusty Lake and Ancient Lakes 1 week ago. Weather was good, trails all in good condition. The falls at Ancient Lake still with some flow. total mileage closer to 6 - 7 miles if you visit both Dusty and then the Ancient Lakes.

This is a well traveled trail with numerous adjacent trails. it all leads to a cliff with lakes at the base. you really can't get lost. what a fascinating area. it is desert so bring water. my cell was iffy at the lakes so be prepared. a wonderful fall day.

Pretty awesome hike, I was amazed by the water falls and lakes in the high desert climate. Lots of good places for camping. Would definitely come back for a camping trip. Maybe in May when water is more abundant. Very easy hike, can be turned into a running trail very easily.

Great hike, the road to get there is gravel for about 3 miles. If you plan on hiking around the lakes, be prepared for some bush waking. Overall it was a good hike.

It’s an easy hike surrounded by some beautiful views! Did see a couple smaller waterfalls, not much water coming over them right now. Trail does take you down to several smaller lakes. Watch out for the bees...they got me twice by the lakes.

Went again yesterday and had a blast. Not much shade in the heat but a few waterfalls along the way. Loop goes out to 3 small-medium sized lakes that are perfect for swimming right now. Beautiful and rather easy hike enjoyed with my dachshund. Highly recommend!

For being listed as moderate traffic hike, this trail was very lonely. I was the only car when I got there and only one when I left. So if crowded isn't your thing, this one might be for you. The lakes are exactly 2 miles from the trailhead. That is if you take left turn where it splits. The first time I hiked this we didnt reach the lakes because we went the wrong way. There are no markers to tell you which way to go. Using the app has been helpful. There is no shade and it gets HOT depending at what time you go. The trail is really good, there are a lot of rocks but most of the sections are dirt. There are a few campsites up there, but did signs that there is no campfires beginning July 1. So much history.

Good hike, though a bit treeless for our tastes. Trailheads are easy to find though, it can be rather easy to get off point if you drop in from the top, above the lakes.

We started at the opposite end and found ourselves above the waterfalls... really spectacular. Had to scramble down the screen to continue...a little bit difficult...easier going back up. Wildflowers everywhere...a magical place.

Wonderful little hike. Took the 4.5 mile loop. About 2.5 miles in you get to the lakes, which present a stunning view. Lots of camping spots all around. If you go in May, there are lots of waterfalls and birds. It has nicely varied terrain. Kid and dog friendly. Simply gorgeous!!

Biked it the other day, pretty. Hot, glad there was a breeze. Few scattered wildflowers went up both drainages the south a bit down the trail towards the gorge, but the trail got a bit tough to ride on, lots of "chicken heads". Talked to some nice horse riders. Not many folks out, saw two backpackers that were out over night.
